Hotel salaries 'below global standard'

Louise Oakley, June 15th, 2009

The majority of Middle East hoteliers believe that their salaries would be “below average” when compared to global standards.

This was one of the key findings of the first Hotelier Middle East Salary Survey, carried out via HotelierMiddleEast.com from April 16 to May 20, 2009.

The majority of respondents (61.7%) considered their salary to be average for the region.

However, when asked to compare their salaries to what they thought would be global averages, the majority of the sample (47.6%) thought that their salary would be below average.

Another 44.4% thought their salary would be about average globally.

Nearly 15% of respondents said that more than 40% of their monthly wage was comprised of allowances, bonuses and commissions. Only 19.6% said their monthly salary did not depend on any of these factors.

A total of 431 hoteliers working across the Middle East responded to the survey.
