Fire brigades from the Al Quoz, Karama and Rashidiya areas of the city rushed to the Al Quoz site, where the 230,000sq metres food product warehouse was gutted by the blaze.

While 400 people were reportedly in the facility when the fire broke out, there were no casualties or injuries, according to Dubai Civil Defence deputy director Ahmed Al Sayegh.

Federal Foods executive director Umesh Agarwal told UAE daily The National:  “We will know the amount of loss only after assessing the damage.”

Federal Foods, which distributes food and beverage products to hotels and restaurants across the UAE, has branches in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Fujairah and Ras al Khaimah.

According to various reports from the UAE’s national press an electrical short circuit was behind the blaze.
