Since joining Jumeirah Group in 1997 as managing director, Gerald Lawless has been instrumental in developing some of the world’s most iconic hotel projects. His stunning portfolio earns him the second spot in the Hotelier Middle East Power 50.
Lawless’ remit was to deliver a completely different experience; something he succeeded in with projects such as the Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Wild Wadi Water Park, which quickly set standards for the regional and international markets to follow.
Since being appointed executive chairman in 2007, Lawless has continued to focus on driving service standards across the Group, developing the distinctive “Jumeirah —– STAY DIFFERENT™” tagline for the brand.
And if that wasn’t enough, dedicated hotelier Lawless has put 30-plus years’ industry experience to good use in his additional roles as a member of the executive committee of the World Travel and Tourism Council, a fellow member of the Institute of Hospitality and a member of the board of directors of NASDAQ Dubai.
He is also on the board of directors of Tatweer, a member of the Dubai Holding Executive Committee and a member of the board of the Emirates Nationals Development Programme (ENDP,) as well as serving as chairman of the board of governors of The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
