Disney may play a large role in shaping the UAE’s colossal Dubailand project, following news that the vast media company plans to buy Marvel Entertainment in a US $4bn deal.
As Disney’s fourth largest ever acquisition, the deal would add 5,000 Marvel characters such as Iron Man, Spider Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four – whose films have pulled in hundreds of millions of dollars – to the Mouse House’s portfolio.
“We have a great opportunity to grow the Marvel brand,” Disney CEO Robert Iger told Bloomberg Television, adding that buying Marvel would allow Disney to extend the characters in its parks and stores.
In April 2008, Tatweer reached a deal with Marvel Entertainment to develop the world’s first Marvel Super Heroes theme park at Dubailand.
It is unclear exactly how Disney’s acquisition of Marvel will affect this Dubailand project.
