EXCLUSIVE: First destination spa for Middle East

Six Senses Hotels & Resorts is looking to develop a 44-villa destination spa — the first in the Middle East — close to the Six Senses Hideaway Zighy Bay resort on the Musandam Peninsula in Oman.

The destination spa would be developed on a plateau above Sense on the Edge, the Hideway’s fine-dining restaurant located within the mountains that surround the resort, revealed Six Senses Hideaway Zighy Bay general manager Rochelle Kilgariff.

Six Senses Hideaway Zighy Bay executive chef Gerald Bergue said that should the project go ahead, he hoped to develop a raw cuisine restaurant at the destination spa —similar to that offered at the flagship Six Senses Destination Spa in Phuket, Thailand.

Plans for the Zighy Bay destination spa, which would be the company’s second worldwide following the launch of the concept in Thailand, last summer, are in the very early stages.

Six Senses was looking to develop destination spa properties along the equator, said Kilgariff, in locations such as Portugal, Morocco and Brazil.

She added that there were would also be expansion at the Hideaway resort itself, with plans for two more villas and an observatory tower similar to the one at Soneva Fushi in the Maldives.
