New recreation facilities for The Chedi

Gemma Greenwood, October 6th, 2009

The Chedi, Muscat has revealed plans to add a major new recreation element to its already impressive grounds.

The luxury hotel, which currently boasts a spa with seven treatment rooms, two pools (The Serai Pool and The Chedi Pool), as well as a small beach-facing gym, is to build a 110-metre long lap pool, a large gym facility and brand new purpose-built spa.

“The reason we are doing this is that we are always trying to find a way of giving our guests a better service and better facilities,” said the property’s director of sales and marketing, Lore Koenig.

“Everyone loves The Chedi pool (beachside infinity pool) and it can get quite busy — although some prefer The Serai Pool, which is for our guests with families — so we are giving them another pool and relaxation area.”

Work has already started on the new facilities, which will be built on an area of land directly next to the property

Construction work will stop during the peak winter period and re-commence next year, with a view to it being completed in Q4, 2010.

Koenig said the three suites at the current spa would be re-furbished and put into the hotel inventory taking the number of Chedi Club Suites from 36 to 39. The remaining treatment areas would probably be transformed into a hair and nail salon, she said.

It is not yet decided what will happen to the current gym, which boasts prime position overlooking the Indian Ocean next to The Chedi Pool.
