Concierge of the Year 2009 winners announced

Concierge of the Year 2009 is the annual search for Dubai’s top concierge; it is organised by Wafi in conjunction with the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Government of Dubai; and is now in its eighth year.

It was established in 2002 to help improve service standards in the city and since then it has grown from strength to strength to become an anticipated competition among Dubai’s growing concierge community.

This year forty five-star hotels have competed for the title throughout the year, with DTCM executive director for training solutions Ibrahim Yaqoot noting that this year there was “a higher level of competency among the hotels for the title, which is a good sign for improve the tourist and hospitality industry in Dubai”.

Charles Ferrer of InterContinental Dubai Festival City was declared 2009 Concierge of the Year, while The Fairmont Dubai won the overall Team of the Year Award.

The closest fought competition was for the Head Concierge of the Year, with only 3.17 points separating the top four in this category, but Olga Pishcheva, Mina A’Salam – Madinat Jumeirah clinched the title.

The awards, cash and specially-designed trophies, were presented at a gala dinner held on the Roof Top Gardens at WAFI on Tuesday.
