Abu Dhabi boasts 15 Michelin stars in 15 days

Gourmet Abu Dhabi, returning for the second year running in February 2010, has confirmed it will feature another stellar line-up of Michelin-starred chefs.

Organiser Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) also announced that the show would be extended to 15 days, due to an “overwhelming response” at this year's launch edition.

The festival, running from February 5-19, 2010, promises a host of international Michelin-star chefs, boasting a total of 15 stars between them.

This talented bunch will include Alain Passard, Regis Marcon, Alfonso Iaccarino, Vineet Bhatia and Roy Yamaguchi.

Several newcomers on the capital emirate’s hotel scene have also confirmed their participation in the gastro-event, including the five-star Fairmont Bab Al Bahr and Yas Island’s signature property The Yas Hotel, bringing the total number of hotel and restaurant partners of the show to 10.

The changes made to this year's culinary event are aimed at moving the emirate along in its campaign to be a global culinary destination, according to ADTA deputy director general Ahmed Hussein.

“As we move towards the 2010 event we can include additional venues as Abu Dhabi’s hospitality portfolio is expanding with the opening of new luxury hotel properties,” he said.

“All these new hospitality players are eager to become part of an event which was the talk of Abu Dhabi long after the 2009 Michelin-star cast had left town.

“Food is very much a reflection of a destination’s culture and in bringing together culinary experts from around the world to share and absorb knowledge, Abu Dhabi is demonstrating its capability as an empowering force for greater cross-cultural understanding.”
