Climate protesters storm UK airport

Climate protesters have cut their way into Manchester Airport in the UK, and have locked arms around an aircraft.

Activists from the Plane Stupid group said they gained access to the airfield this morning in protest against planned extensions at the site.

According to reports, six campaigners created a human chain around a plane, while a second group of 10 people mounted giant tripods at the entrance to the terminal.

The group unfurled a banner that read "More air freight = more climate change. Stop all airport expansion now".

No arrests have been made, despite the protest continuing and all flights being suspended for 20 minutes.

Annie McLaughlin, from Manchester Plane Stupid told reporters: "The airport, which is owned by local councils, has kept local residents in the dark about the proposed expansion plans, failing to adequately inform them that their homes face demolition.

"The proposed expansion of the freight terminal makes no sense, economically or environmentally.”
