Last month, Caterer Middle East met up with seven of Dubai’s top beverage industry professionals, to get the inside scoop on the best cocktails of the moment.

Here’s what they had to say about the best tipples they’ve had recently…

“One drink I love is a cocktail called Akuma Martini, made with lychee and chilli, which they make in Okku Restaurant and Lounge [at The Monarch Dubai].

“It’s difficult to get those flavours balanced, but it works really well, and it’s something a bit different.”

“After 15 years in the industry, I’m not much of a cocktail drinker — but I am rather partial to a Sailor Jerry Godfather at the moment; that’s Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and Amaretto over ice.”

“A Beefeater 24 Gibson Martini, with silverskin onions; that’s my favourite.”

“We’re doing a twist on classic cocktails at the moment, and we’ve got a Blue Agave Margarita, where instead of sugar syrup you use fresh blue agave syrup.

“I’ve always liked the classic Margarita and this just elevates it that extra bit.”

“I’m a big fan of the Thai flavours, so for instance we’re doing a Lemongrass Martini at the moment, which has lemon juice, gin, and then the lemongrass served on top; and it’s awesome.”

“I think my choice would be something very simple, like a classic Gin & Tonic, with lots of ice.

“I like simple drinks done well, and that is a great summer beverage.”

“I do like something slightly unusual, like ginger or coriander, in a cocktail; maybe a Sour. I like Asian flavours, and I do go for rum.”
