A London restaurant owner has been fined US $46,758 for an “appalling catalogue” of offences.

Inspectors found mouse droppings, cockroach eggs in dim sum baskets and a mouse jumping from a bowl of sweet and sour sauce that was about to be served to customers.

Inspectors visiting the Kam Tong, Hung Tao and Kiasu restaurants in west London, even managed to photograph the mouse mid leap.

Owner Ronald Lim admitted 17 counts of breaching food hygiene regulations at Court, where he was also handed an eight-month jail term suspended for two years.

The three restaurants were shut down in 2008, but have reopened, with Lim given three months to improve standards before a decision is made as to whether he will be banned from operating a catering business.
