Passenger jet carrying 152 crashes in Pakistan

Hotelier Middle East Staff, July 28th, 2010

There are no signs of life at the crash site of a passenger jet carrying 152 in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The office of Pakistan's prime minister has declared a day of national mourning.

A witness told reporters he was on a family outing in the hills when he saw the plane looking unsteady in the air.

It was originally thought that a light aircraft had crashed but a police official told reporters it was a “bigger tragedy”.

Rescuers were trying to reach the scene of the Airblue plane crash on Wednesday morning, but are hampered by difficult access to the crash site in the Margalla Hills area of Islamabad.

A Civil Aviation Authority official said 146 passengers were onboard including six crew members.

Pakistani TV crews are in helicopters at the scene.
