VisitBritain to launch agent training programme

Visit Britain, the UK’s national tourism board is set to launch its first travel agent training programme in the Middle East aimed at boosting knowledge of the destination among the travel trade.

The ‘Brit Agent’ programme is a free e-learning training programme aimed at creating a pool of ‘Britain specialists’ in the UAE. The tourism board hopes to get at least thirty specialists trained up in the initial phase of the course.

The programme will be launched in Dubai on the 29 September at the British Ambassador’s residence followed by an Abu Dhabi launch in the first week of October.

Agents that complete the three month course will have the chance to take part in Visit Britain fam trips and trade events, and any agency with two BritAgents will be awarded a ‘specialist status’ from Visit Britain.

Carol Maddison, manager, UAE, Visit Britain explained that the main idea behind the programme was to increase knowledge among the trade about other areas of Britain outside of London.

“Britain is seen as London here in the UAE. The agencies that are promoting Britain know London quite well but they don’t know the rest of the UK so its part of our remit to get more information to them about England and Scotland and Wales,” she said.
