Naughty hotel guests to be blacklisted

An online site has been set up in the UK that allows hoteliers to blacklist bad guests.

The database, GuestScan, will allow hotelier to check a guest’s credentials in a bid to avoid thieves and those who break things in rooms.

The system, which is already in place in Australia under the name Guests Behaving Badly, will work in the same manner as a credit card blacklist.

More than 10,000 hotels, B&Bs, holiday letting agencies and campsites are expected to sign up.

Offenders are told of their status by GuestScan and can remain blacklisted for up to four years.

However, due to the Data Protection Act, those placed on the list will have a right to appeal.

According to insurance company More Than £5 million worth of bathrobes had been taken, 336,000 beds broken and 300,000 television sets destroyed in the last five years.
