Pilot dies on Qatar Airways flight

A Qatar Airways aircraft flying from Manila to Doha was forced to divert to Kuala Lumpur after one of the plane’s pilots died in mid-flight.

The pilot, who has not been named, suffered a heart attack.

The Qatari flag-carrier confirmed the incident in a press statement.

"Qatar Airways regrets to inform that the captain of flight QR645, operating from Manila to Doha, passed away on board. The flight was diverted to Kuala Lumpur landing at approximately 0335hrs UTC where a new crew boarded. The flight departed Kuala Lumpur at 0516hrs UTC and is due to land at Doha International Airport later today," the statement said.

"Qatar Airways’ priority, as always, remains the comfort and safety of its passengers and staff."
