Waooooooo, then they should shut down hotels too, it's a amazing decision by Government which is senseless. What would happen to Spa Resorts, the whoe generation there is spoiled already and now their economy is based on tourism so how would it work no one knows. Good Luck to Maldives

Maldives is "doomed" already, since couple of years, as result of the local employment protectionist laws which favors Maldivians (despite their increasing laziness and abusive attitude towards expats..). Service level (especially within the 5* properties) is dropping fast & will drop further - Maldives as a whole is loosing the prime position as a favorite destination holiday. This latest decision of incapable politicians and Islamic influence will tight the "node" around their tourism future. Very interesting to see what will happen with this nation that has been so fortunate to have the worldwide tourism interest & level of investments made from abroad. Perhaps, all of them will go back to the fishing boats...good luck!

Massage Parlours in the entire Asian tourist circuit are a front for Prostitution. Maldives has realized it a day too late.

I agree with John, I have been to Maldives, local people with no sense of respect towards foreigners. They feel proud of nothing and totally spoiled. You will never see any hotel staff coming on work on time, some times disappear and even are not obliged to answer about their laziness. Service is a disaster there, I did analysis of service standards in Maldives between Maldivians & foreigners from India, Mauritius, Bangladesh, Pakistan & China trust me Maldivian staff was found at the bottom of service. The only Blessing they have is tourism which they do not respect which they need to understand as all is about foreigners there. If they need to implement Islamic values then should bann Alcohol too, giving bann to Spa is just a drama by incompetent govt. It's a beautiful land and stunning islands, Service needs to be paramount which unfortunately is dropping.

I only had good experiences there, but that was 7 years ago. I would think if there is one location in Asia where Spas are not brothels, that would be in the Maldives (and that I hope has not changed).

First, I am a Spa Manager I see that everyone only criticizes the decision as if Maldives is your own land/ house. It is not mine too, however I will look at it differently. You are to impose any roles and regulation in your house for your family, kids and guests while they have the choice to remain or not. I could only present my opinion for the new decision plus RESPECT it I would keep a closer eye on Spa's operations and happenings, sending mystery shoppers to verify business run inside those Spas and take serious action against rules breakers
