Celebrity chef Brian Turner has given competitors in A. Ronai’s Omelette Challenge at Gulfood some helpful hints on how to cook a speedy omelette.
The competition, which takes place on A.Ronai’s stand D2-2 in Hall 2 from February 27 to March 2 at Gulfood, will determine who can cook the fastest three egg omelette.
The challenge will take place every two hours and a leader board will be on the stand for the duration of the show showing each contestant’s time.

Brian Turner’s recipe
1. Allow 3 eggs per portion
2. Break the eggs into a bowl, season with salt and pepper
3. Beat well with a fork or whisk until the yolks and whites are thoroughly combined and no streaks of white can be seen
4. Heat the omelette pan
5. Clean the pan thoroughly with a dry cloth
6. Add 1/2 oz butter and heat until foaming but not brown
7. Add the eggs and cook quickly, moving the mixture continuously with a fork until lightly set
8. Remove from heat and half fold the mixture over
9. Tap the bottom of the pan to bring up the edge of the omelette
10. Tilt the pan completely over the serving plate and allow the omlette to fall carefully into the centre of plate
11. Neaten the shape if necessary and serve immediately.
The competition will not be without reward and goody bags and prizes will be awarded including signed books from Brian Turner, dinner vouchers from Wafi Hospitality, six piece crockery sets from Steelite International and dinner vouchers from Fibber Magees.
Also contestants who take part will have the chance to receive two drinks vouchers from Fibber Magees.
The competition is open to all hotel professionals.

Hopefully there will be a good heat source as this will be important for speed. So, how long does it take Chef Turner to do an omelet under these conditions? I'll guess 2 minutes 20 seconds.
