Famous Turkish actor Kivanc Tatlitug (otherwise known as Muhannad), and Turkish tourism officials were in Dubai last night to launch Turkey’s first ever shopping festival – to be held in Istanbul in March.
The 40-day festival, designed to position Istanbul as a major shopping and tourism destination, runs from March 18 – April 26 and will offer tourists discounted items, extended shopping hours, entertainment around the city and the chance to win prizes.
Traditional tourist destinations such as the Grand Bazaar and Egyptian Spice Market will host concerts, street festivals and displays such as fashion shows designed to get tourists spending.

Sedat Gönüllüoğlu, The Turkish Cultural & Tourism Attaché in Dubai said organisers were aiming to attract Arab tourists to the event and wanted to emulate the success of the Dubai shopping festival.
“The event is set to attract millions of shoppers from surrounding countries who can visit Turkey without a visa,” he said.
Turkey usually receives 750,000 tourists over the period from the Middle East region, but officials predicted that 1.2 million tourists from the region would come for the shopping festival.
