The UAE casual dining segment is worth AED 2.2 billion (US $600 million), according to a first of its kind report due to be unveiled at Gulfood in Dubai tomorrow (March 1).
Produced by foodservice consultancy Horizons and Abu Dhabi-based F&B strategy house Tribe Restaurant Creators, the Eating Out in the UAE report is the first comprehensive overview of the country’s booming casual dining market.
Horizons managing director Peter Blackman said: “This report investigates every aspect of the sector, from macro-economic factors to identifying who the big players are and where they are located”.

Issues addressed include “branding, franchising, service quality, value, innovative marketing, green awareness and supply chain,” added Tribe chief worrier Stefan Breg.
The report also analyses growth to date and provides future growth projections in the casual dining market — which is defined as being branded restaurants with table service at everyday prices (AED 70-120 per cover).
From less than 20 casual dining units in 2004, rapid growth in the market — largely as a result of the development super malls Dubai Mall and Mirdif City Centre — has resulted in a total of 370 branded casual dining units operating today in the UAE today.
The value of the market is predicted to increase by nearly half over the next four years, fuelled by upcoming mall projects in Abu Dhabi.
“We anticipate that the casual dining market will increase by 47% to AED 3.24 billion ($882 million) by 2015,” said Breg.
For more findings from the report, attend tomorrow’s seminar hosted by Tribe chief worrier Stefan Breg at the Gulfood Conference at 1030am-11.15, located at the Ajman D meeting room above Hall 7.
