Afro-Portuguese chain of chicken restaurants, Nando's, opened its ninth outlet in the UAE on the Marina promenade yesterday.
The Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa, Yacoob Abba Omar, cut the ribbon at the inauguration ceremony, which saw hundreds of white balloons released into the air in homage to traditional South African tradition.
Shiraz Gidwani, 'chief Nandoca' at Nando's spoke at the ceremony and predicted that Nando's would be opening up in Abu Dhabi “very soon”. He commented:

“Ever since Nandos was founded in 1987 in Johannesburg it has grown and grown and now has 955 restauramts worldwide. We are thrilled to be opening our ninth outlet here on the Marina promenade.”
His excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa added:
“Nandos is a very strong brand in South Africa and I believe it captures the warm heart and personality of all South Africans. When Nandos finally opens in Abu Dhabi I will really be able to say ‘the chicken has landed’”.
