UAE hoteliers are targeting domestic and regional markets with a range of summer deals to increase hotel occupancy rates during the low-season.

Luxury and budget hotels around the emirates are enticing potential customers during the hottest summer months with special summer rates and weekend packages, as well as deals on extras such as spa treatments and day trips.

“Everyone is giving discounts in the summer because the temperatures are so high, which means business goes down,” said Guy Wilkinson, general manager of consultancy firm Viability.

“Also a lot of people go on holiday back to Europe and their home countries from here. So for various reasons the occupancy level goes down in the hotels, so they try to increase occupancy by providing good deals.”

Tourism is one the biggest earners for the world’s third biggest oil exporter, bringing in millions of dollars per year through spending on hotels, restaurants and day trips.
Hotel occupancy rates typically fall by around 15 percent during the summer months.
