The US has warned airlines that terrorists are looking at the possibility of surgically implanting explosives into humans to carry out attacks on flights.

While the technique is not a new idea, officials said they had received intelligence that terrorists were considering using the idea again.

According to reports, the US discussed its findings and concerns with domestic and international carriers.

It is also thought that people travelling to the United States may experience additional screening at airports because of the threat.

Hotels have also been warned to be vigilant in light of evidence suggesting AL Qaeda was planning a terrorist attack on the Ritz-Carlton in London.
