Saudi Arabian Airlines passengers at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah were faced with travel chaos over the Eid break due to flight delays and poor services from the national airline.

According to a report in Saudi newspaper Arab News, airline officials at the South Terminal – which is used exclusively used by Saudi Arabian Airlines - were even subjected to minor injuries as overcrowding and major delays led to skirmishes between passengers and staff.

Delays were caused by the seasonal rush of travellers for the Eid Al-Fitr break, compounded with a lack of airport staff.

To add to the chaos, the airline cancelled a number of flights to Indian cities on “technical grounds” leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and forced to sleep at the airport.

Saudia passengers complained that no information was provided by airport staff about the status of their flights.

According to the report, welfare staff from the Indian Consulate in Jeddah were dispatched to aid nearly 1,000 frustrated travellers caught up in the crush with food and water.
