Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai will attempt to break the existing Guinness World Record for the longest Yule log cake at 10am on December 1.
The hotel pastry chefs hope to break the record, which stands at 207.8m-long, by creating an 888m-long cake.
The existing record was unveiled by Philippe Gardette of the Ordre Culinaire International and Jean-Claude Méritte and Nathalie Raphael of CODECOM (all from France), in La Défense, Paris, France on December 1, 2010.

This time, 80 chefs of Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai will showcase their masterful expertise with flour and eggs, and the cake will start at the hotel’s Grand Tower lobby and cross the entire length of the River Wing lobby, spread over two staircases in its path.
Visitors are invited to watch the event. This is the first time that a hotel in China has made a Guinness World Record attempt, and a cake 888m-long has been chosen because the number “eight” in Chinese also represents fortune, good luck and prosperous.
A representative from the Guinness Book of World Records will be present to witness the event, alongside children from the Shanghai Children’s Hospital of Fudan University and students from Pudong Special Educational School.
After the event, the whole cake slice by slice to the public. All proceeds will be donated to support the medical needs and treatment of four children from Shanghai Children’s Hospital of Fudan University who require chemotherapy.
