RAK Airways has launched its first long-haul flight with a new route to Bangkok, Thailand.

Effective 1 June  2012 the carrier will offer four non-stop flights a week to Bangkok. The cost of the flight will start at AED 1800.

RAK Airways CEO Omar Jahameh said, “With the introduction of our first long- haul route to Bangkok, RAK Airways has cemented its unique market position between the well-established full service carriers and the low-cost carriers. Our value offering and route network is now markedly different to other carriers in the region; as one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations we are confident our Bangkok route will be extremely successful.”

The UAE leads the region in terms of number of visitors to Thailand ahead of the rest of the GCC. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand 110,000 tourists from the emirates visited the country in 2011 spending a total of approximately AED6.7 million.

The tourism industry continues to be a major driver for economic growth in Thailand; the Tourism Ministry expects 20.5 to 20.8 million visitors in 2012 alone. With tourist numbers set to grow even further this year, RAK Airways looks forward to offering travellers the opportunity to tap into the country’s growth and tourism potential.

RAK Airways re-launched operations in 2010 with two routes to Jeddah, KSA and Calicut, India. Since then, the airline has focused on extending its route network across the GCC, Indian sub-continent and North Africa. The introduction of its’ Bangkok route marks the carrier’s entry into Far East Asia.

Included in the price of all fares is a full hot meal and beverages served free on-board all flights, along with a baggage allowance of 30kg per passenger in addition to the normal hand baggage allowance. There is also a free shuttle service between other emirates and RAK International Airport for each flight.

RAK Airways provides free parking for passengers who wish to drive to RAK International Airport which is just 30 minutes away from Sharjah and 45 minutes away from Dubai.
