The winners of the Baking and Pastry Guild Middle East’s competition have been announced, with chefs from The Address Downtown Dubai winning in five of the 11 categories.

Tantri Maulida, from The Address Downtown, came first in the Fine Patisserie & Bistro Cakes and secured a gold medal. She said of winning: “It’s really great, I’ve enjoyed the competition and am very happy with the result.”

Pater Hallmanns, vice president of the Baking and Pastry Guild Middle East, said: “It has been best year and that’s largely due to the support from Dubai World Trade Centre and the Gulfood team. The standard of the competitors was much higher and was further enhanced by the high calibre of judges. All of them were highly recognized individuals in the catering industry who hold titles such as master baker, executive pastry chef and maitre de chocolat.

“I think the chefs enjoyed being given the opportunity to compete in this highly specialized field, and at the Baking and Pastry Guild, we believe that there is a need for individualism in the industry of pastry chefs and bakers. What we do is give these people an opportunity – we support and enhance them very much.”
