A new venue has been chosen for the eighth edition of the prestigious Hotelier Middle East Awards — the Ritz-Carlton Dubai International Financial Centre — which will host the black tie event on October 31, 2012.

Hotelier Middle East editor Louise Oakley commented: “We are excited to be holding the Hotelier Middle East Awards at a new venue this year.

“The Ritz-Carlton Dubai International Financial Centre is one of Dubai’s leading luxury hotels and with more than 500 of the Middle East’s hoteliers expected to attend the ceremony, we expect it to be our best event yet.”

The Awards seek to celebrate hotel industry heroes across 18 individual categories, from concierge and chef to laundry manager and engineer.

Two of the most coveted awards are GM of the Year, last year won by Robert Kunkler of Madinat Jumeirah — who has since climbed the career ladder and joined Minor Group as senior vice president hotel operations — and Unsung Hero of the Year, which was awarded to security guard Abdulkareem Muradi at Crowne Plaza Bahrain.

The 19th award category is for the best Hotel Team of the Year, which recognises a hotel’s entire workforce.

Previous winners include Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Al Manzil Hotel, Dubai.

Nominations are already being received for the hotly-contended awards from hotels across the GCC, Levant and Egypt.

All nominations are made online at www.hoteliermiddleeast.com/awards

The deadline for nominations is Thursday 30 August.
