Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) have launched a joint initiative to promote and sell the emirate as a leading leisure destination to the world.

Access Abu Dhabi will provide the opportunity for national and international trade partners to benefit from preferred incentive packages which will include dedicated marketing support, sales support, along with joint roadshows and familiarisation programmes.

TCA Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways will work together with wholesalers and tour operator partners to provide fast and tailored solutions, a statement said.

Commenting on the launch, Mubarak Al Muhairi, director general, TCA Abu Dhabi, said: "This new product demonstrates our commitment to our important travel partners and to helping them develop the increasing opportunities held out by our expanding tourism infrastructure and proposition."

James Hogan, president and CEO of Etihad Airways, added: "This partnership further demonstrates our confidence that Abu Dhabi is recognised as an exciting travel destination - complete with world class hotels and attractions.

"We are proud to be coming together with TCA Abu Dhabi as close partners in this venture, showcasing Abu Dhabi and our airline to the world."

The initiative aims to give inbound trade partners a one-stop solution to secure the best terms and support for their annual land and air arrangements to Abu Dhabi.

Last month, tourism chiefs said the number of guests staying in Abu Dhabi hotels reached a new record in the first nine months of the year.

TCA Abu Dhabi data showed that 1.74m people stayed in the UAE capital’s 131 hotels and hotel apartments, representing a 15 percent increase compared to the same period in 2011.

TCA Abu Dhabi said the rise in the number of guests translated into 5m hotel guest nights, 10 percent up against the first nine months of last year.

Despite this, occupancy levels during the first three quarters of the year shrank 7 percent to 63 percent, likely due to the number of new properties that came on line during the period.
