Five new categories have been introduced to this year’s Hotelier Middle East Awards, which seek to reward the most professional, creative and committed hoteliers working in the business today.

The first new category is The Young Hotelier of the Year, which is open to hoteliers aged up to and including 30 years, who have clocked up at least five years’ experience in the international hospitality sector, two of which must be in the Middle East.

Hotelier Middle East editor Louise Oakley said the award was applicable to all young hoteliers, whether they entered the industry through a graduate management scheme or started their careers as rank and file.

She said: “We want to hear stories about how they have brought a fresh perspective to the hotel management and importantly, been able to deliver upon these ideas. We want to know how they inspire their colleagues daily and enhance their guests’ experience.

“Ultimately, Hotelier Middle East’s Young Hotelier of the Year should be a dynamic individual striving to fulfil their greatest potential and bring great success to their property.”

The second new category is for the CSR Champion of the Year, designed to recognise someone who prioritises responsible business in all aspects of their operation.

Also new to the 2013 edition of the Hotelier Awards are three categories expecting to attract significant competition, namely: Hotel Manager / EAM of the Year; Sales Person of the Year; and Chef de Cuisine of the Year.

Each of these awards seeks to celebrate the achievements of hoteliers at the top of their game in these sought after positions.

Commenting on the new categories, Oakley added: “Popular demand has resulted in the launch of the Sales Person of the Year Award.

“We are looking for evidence of how a sales person has managed big accounts and gone over and above the call of duty to secure business, while still ensuring that the hotel’s profitability is maximised. We’re also after a team player that maintains the customer database, generates new leads and develops client referrals.

“The Sales Person of the Year will be ambitious, results-driven and dynamic, with the numbers to back up their story.”

Nominations are now open, with entries to be completed online at HotelierMiddleEast.com before the deadline of August 22.

The Awards ceremony will be held on October 30 at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, with 600 top hoteliers from across the Middle East expected to attend.
