Kudos Global has launched a competition to design a day bed for the luxury hotel industry, with the winner to be decided by 600 top hoteliers attending the Hotelier Middle East Awards on October 30 in Dubai.

In partnership with Hotelier Middle East, over the next two months Kudos will invite interior designers and hoteliers to submit designs for a day bed for pool, beach, relaxing and lounging.

In August, an expert panel of hoteliers and designers will shortlist the entries, leaving just three finalists to be voted upon at the Hotelier Middle East Awards, being held at JW Marriott Marquis Dubai.

Each of the three finalists will have their design produced and one set presented to them to keep. The day bed will be included in the exclusive “Kudos Designer Collection”, with the winner receiving royalties of 3% of the selling price on each product sold by Kudos.

The first place winner will also win a cash prize of US $3000, with the first runner-up netting $1500 and the second runner-up being awarded $750.

Dan Lacey, general manager, Kudos Global said the company launched the competition “to represent local design within our range and provide a local flavour to our forthcoming product collections”

“We would like the designs to be both innovative and original, whilst taking into account local market sensibilities and prevailing climatic conditions in the Middle East,” said Lacey.

“The materials we would like to see used are aluminium tubing for the framing & All Weather Wicker weave material as Kudos has recently acquired our own All Weather Wicker factory in Cebu in the Philippines.

“The Day Beds are aimed at hotels, which are Kudos’s main target customers, so they have to be comfortable and functional but aside from this the sky is the limit,” he added.

Asked why he wanted the Hotelier Awards prestigious guest list to vote for the winners, Lacey added: “We feel very strongly that as the product is aimed at the hospitality sector, the industry should decide upon the winner!"
