The Sultanate of Oman is about to get its first coffee challenge with the Oman Barista Competition in September.

This feature will be launched as part of the Food & Hospitality Oman exhibition, and will pit Oman's baristas against each other for three categories, reflecting the increasing demand and consumption of the beverage in the Sultanate.

The hopefuls are required to prepare two types of standard coffee beverages, along with preparing and presenting a signature recipe of their choice to a jury of local and international coffee experts.

Food & Hospitality Oman exhibition manager Ammar Ahmad said in a statement, "Part of our commitment to the exhibitions industry is to ensure the improvement of the exhibitor and visitor experience, apart from showcasing the talent and skill of the Omani youth. The Oman Barista Competition is a result of this continuous commitment to offer an educational and entertainment dimension to the show."

He added that the competition will set a new benchmark for similar culinary competitions in Oman, providing coffee producers, manufacturers, distributors, importers, and retailers with business opportunities.

Oman Barista Competition is organised in association with the National Hospitality Institute Oman, Italy-based coffee brands illy and Nuova Simonelli and Al Roofoof Trading.
