The Dubai World Hospitality Championship (DWHC) 2013, a Government of Dubai and a Zaabeel Palace Hospitality initiative, hopes to spotlight Dubai amongst the finest multicultural culinary destinations of the world, and will be held in association with the Emirates Culinary Guild.
In its first edition, the event will see 12 globally renowned culinary masters and 700 chefs vying for top honours through crafting international and Emirati cuisine.
The competition will allow contestants to create signature Emirati dishes using a combination of supplied ingredients. A distinguished jury panel will then evaluate the platters for accuracy and authenticity in reflecting the UAE’s spirit of hospitality and flavour.
An official meeting chaired by His Excellency Ahmed bin Hareb Al Falahi, president of DWHC and Ahmed Sharif vice president of DWHC opened the agenda for the event.

Emirati women’s associations from across the UAE met the championship’s organising committee to discuss the Emirati Competition segment and the Heritage Village.
The Heritage Village will additionally serve as an international platform for home-grown businesses to showcase their produce. The organisers will extend support and help in the marketing and sale of such products.
His Excellency Al Falahi said: “Women have conventionally played a key role in shaping the culinary tradition in Emirati homes and indeed in our country at large. Oneof the key priorities of the championship is to empower young, Emirati women entrepreneurs to bring their ‘home businesses’ into the retail limelight. In this context, the enthusiasm of women’s associations in the country is highly appreciated. We hope women will make the inaugural event their own and participate in large numbers.”
Women’s associations that have thrown their weight behind the inaugural DWHC initiative include General Women's Union Abu Dhabi, Dubai Women's Association, Dubai Women Association (Al Lisaili), Dubai Women Association (Hatta), Sharjah Union Women's Association, Umm Al Moumneen Women's Association Ajman, Um Al Quwain Welfare Association, Ras Al Khaimah Women's Association, Office of Girls Guides Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah Welfare Association.
The Dubai World Hospitality Championship is set to run from 16 – 18 November at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event is set to serve as a platform for international and Emirati chefs to demonstrate their excellence and creativity in their chosen areas of culinary expertise.
