Prosecutors have reopened the case of a newlywed who died after falling from a window of the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Dubai eight months ago, reports 7Days.
The death of British tourist Abbie Emmett, who was in the UAE on honeymoon, was originally recorded as suicide after she was found to have been drinking heavily on the night of her death.
She died after falling from a window at Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Garhoud on February 19. At the time, Dubai Police said there were no suspicious circumstances. However, an official at Dubai Public Prosecution told the paper that the case has been reopened and prosecutors are investigating whether Abbie was murdered.

Abbie, 27, and her husband Sean Emmett, a 43-year-old ex-professional motorbike racer, came to the UAE following their wedding in South Africa. Emmett is still in the country as, nine days after Abbie’s death he was arrested when he turned up at Al Rashidiya Police Station for an appointment smelling of alcohol.
Surrendering his passport Emmet was charged with consuming alcohol and fined AED 2,000 (US 545) for drinking without a licence. The prosecution official has reportedly said that Emmett’s passport has not been returned because he hasn’t paid his fine.
The prosecution official said: “He was fined in absence as he failed to show in the courtroom and he has not been to pay the fine. He was on bail at that time as he left his passport with us. He hasn’t come to pay his fine or collect his passport.”
In an interview in May, Emmett told The Sun newspaper in the UK that Abbie, a vicar’s daughter, fell from the window as she peered out looking for her wedding ring after dropping it. He was quoted as saying: “She was on tiptoes over the rail, it was so precarious. I told her not to lean because it was dangerous. The next minute, I saw her legs and feet and she was gone. She just flipped straight out.”
Emmett said that his wife had been drinking alcohol in their room after a night out when she dropped her ring.
