Dubai Maritime City Authority has launched an educational campaign to raise awareness about safe operations on floating restaurants as part of its efforts to promote environmental and maritime safety.

The announcement comes shortly after a luxury party boat carrying up to 100 passengers crashed near the Palm Jumeirah on Friday morning.

Super-yacht Jasmin crashed onto rocks near Palm Jumeirah and became marooned when bad weather and rough seas made it difficult for the boat to enter the Dubai Marina.

While the owners are yet to determine the cost of repairs, the boat is expected to be out of service for three months and is likely to cost millions of dirhams to fix.

DMCA’s campaign, held periodically throughout the year, includes emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures, and disaster response. It also tackles subjects related to maritime safety, including effective internal and external communication, fire-fighting policies, and preventing marine pollution from operational oil spills.

Commenting on the campaign, DMCA director for maritime operations Mohammed Al Bastaki said: “Floating restaurants are key representation of the investment community, tourism, and maritime industry. This prompted us to lay down a clear framework to ensure their safe and secure operations. Our campaign also makes sure that floating restaurants meet the stringent standards of Maritime Sector Strategy (MSS) aimed at creating a vibrant and secure maritime industry.”
