Construction work is expected to begin soon at Nakheel Mall on Palm Jumeirah after its developer awarded a number of key contracts.
Nakheel has signed a AED1.2 billion (US $326.7 million) construction contract with United Engineering Construction and Actco General Contracting Company LLC for the 418,000 square metre mall.
As previously reported, the mall will stand alongside a 50-storey residential complex – The Palm Tower – which will house a 290-room five-star Shangri-La hotel.
A separate construction contract for The Palm Tower will be awarded soon, according to Nakheel, and both the mall and the hotel are expected to open in 2016.
The mall itself will have five retail levels with more than 100,000 square metres of shop space, three basement parking levels with 4,000 spaces, 300 shops, two anchor department stores, a nine-screen cinema, medical centre and a fitness complex.
There will also be a roof plaza with a host of fine dining restaurants, as well as a diverse selection of food and beverage outlets inside.
