A new visa fee structure came into effect on Friday designed to encourage growth in the country's economy.

The General Directorates of Residency and Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Interior said the move "supports various aspects of economic, touristic and social activities".

The new measures include the issuing of a new array of entry permits and visas, such as multiple entry permits for visit or work; the activation of study visas, and entry permits for medical care and attending conferences.

The new fees for some types of visas, which were published in the semi-official Arabic language daily Al Ittihad, are as follows:

* AED200:Visa for work in the public sector

* AED250: Investor or business partner visa

* AED150: Visa for domestic helpers working for nationals

* AED200: Visa for domestic helpers working for expatriates

* AED200: Visa for family members of expatriate in the public sector

* AED250: Visa for family members of an investor or business partner

* AED200: Multi-purpose visa for tourist ship crew members

* AED1,100: Visa for landlords
