Discussions on how to best link the upcoming Dubai Tram and nearby hotels have taken place.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently held a workshop with representatives of 22 hotels close to the Dubai Tram to discuss how best to link the stations to hotels when the system opens later this year.
“The workshop included an introductory briefing highlighting the integration between the Dubai Tram and other transit modes as well as surrounding areas in order to provide a safe and smooth transport for all,” said Nasir Bu Shehab, director of RTA Strategic Planning.
“Examples were cited such as the link between the two metro stations at the Dubai Marina and the Jumeirah Lakes, and the link between the Tram, buses and other transport means at the Dubai Marina.

Bu Shehab stressed the importance of the Tram, as well as various other modes of public transport, in curbing traffic congestions and encouraging greater use of public transport by residnets and tourists.
"The RTA can provide NOL cards at hotels along with maps depicting the tram stations to ease the use of this mode and avail the intended benefits of the project to our customers," he added.
"During the workshop, representatives of hotels as well as investors made a host of suggestions, inquiries and ideas, which will be studied as they have the potential of improving the effectiveness of the Dubai Tram.”
The first phase of Dubai’s new public transport system will serve Al Sufouh, Jumeirah Beach Residence Walk, Dubai Marina and the Knowledge Village.
The tramline, which extends to approximately 11km and includes 11 stations, is scheduled to open in November 2014.
