A total of 628 hotels, with a combined 147,454 rooms, are currently under construction in the Middle East and Africa, according data from STR Global.
The organisation’s Global Construction Pipeline Report for August data includes projects in the in construction, final planning and planning stages but does not include projects in the unconfirmed stage.
Among the region’s key markets, Jeddah reported the largest increase in existing supply (up 115.%) if all 7396 rooms under contract open.
Four other markets reported more than 50% expected room growth, including Riyadh (up 113% with 10,095 rooms), Doha (up 79.7% with 10,828 rooms), Lagos (+63.3% with 2,397 rooms) and Muscat (up 55.6% with 3,006 rooms).
