A hotel in Makkah, Saudi Arabia had to be evacuated on Monday after a fire broke out on its upper floor, resulting in three people being rushed to hospital suffering from suffocation.
According to the state-run Saudi Press Agency, the ten-storey hotel in the holy city was occupied by Asian pilgrims coming from the UK.
The fire was put out successfully by Civil Defence fire extinguishing squads and all 107 Indonesian, Indian and Pakistani pilgrims were evacuated.
A spokesperson for the Civil Defence said the fire had gutted a dining room and a reception hall, adding that an investigation into the cause of the incident had been launched.
According to the latest figures from The Directorate General of Passports in Saudi Arabia, 1,388,404 pilgrims have already arrived into the Kingdom for the hajj season.
