The Dubai Tram stretches for 10.6 kilometres and is served by 11 stations, winding through Al Sufouh, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence while also serving Dubai Media City, Knowledge Village and Palm Jumeirah.
From today, it is open for public service from 6.30am until 1.30am, with a trip every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 12 minutes during non-peak hours.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA, briefed Sheikh Hamdan on the Dubai Tram project at a ceremony held on Tuesday evening.
Each tram has a capacity to carry 405 passengers, with one gold cabin, four silver cabins and two cabins for women and children.
Dubai’s authorities expect the tram to initially serve around 27,000 people daily and, after a four kilometre extension with six more stations commences in 2016, this number is expected to rise to 66,000.
