A total of 626 hotels are currently under construction across the Middle East and Africa, with a combined 146,753 rooms, according to the latest data from STR Global.
The organisation’s Construction Pipeline Report for December accounts for projects in the in construction, final planning and planning stages, but does not include projects in the unconfirmed stage.
Dubai accounts for the most of these rooms, 10,969, followed by Doha (6576 rooms), Makkah (5936 rooms), Riyadh (5491 rooms), Abu Dhabi (3065 rooms), and Jeddah (2728 rooms).

The data from STR Global shows a reduction in the number of hotels under construction, likely due to a number of new properties being completed just before the end of the year.
In November, the report had shown there were 644 hotel rooms under contract in the Middle East & Africa region, with a total 151,680 rooms.
