What initially inspired you to get into the hospitality industry?
My grandmother worked in hotel kitchens, and as a young boy I found the hotel’s hustle and bustle quite fascinating. Later on, this developed as I was attracted to foreign languages, cultures, travelling and meeting new people. I joined the hospitality industry as a hotel bellboy 22 years ago and my passion has only grown since then.
How has your previous work experience inspired your management philosophy?
Looking back, I can say that it’s always the people you remember. I believe in unlocking potential, situational leadership, and to walk the talk. I have witnessed incredible results and potential unveiled during challenging situations. It is amazing what people can achieve when performing at their full capacity.
Where has been your favourite place to work so far, and how does it compare to your current position?
I have been fortunate to move and grow within one great company, IHG. Every new role I have assumed is a natural progression from the previous one. I have always enjoyed working in luxury hotels and my role today is very exciting as it involves leading the team at my hotel, as well as looking after the company’s interests in Bahrain.

Have you experienced any major moments that have shaped your career to date?
The first one would be my move to London 15 years ago. I completed my studies in hospitality management and got my first international experience at InterContinental London Park Lane. It was an incredible learning experience, and a real eye-opener.
How does working in your current position differ from any of the other hotels where you’ve worked?
In my current role I look after our company’s portfolio in Bahrain; therefore, I have to balance my focus between my hotel and the other responsibilities in the area. This is the main difference compared to my previous role as thegeneral manager of one hotel unit.
What aspect of your new position are you most excited about?
I am excited about having a great team, as this is where it all starts. Secondly, the InterContinental Regency Bahrain has been refurbished recently so we have an excellent product to offer to our guests. Thirdly, Bahrain’s hospitality industry is booming with several projects in the pipeline, which is a very positive sign.
What new initiatives or programmes are you planning to introduce as part of your new position?
One of the first initiatives will be the introduction of the IHG Dining Rewards programme at InterContinental Regency Bahrain and Crowne Plaza Bahrain. It offers benefits in dining, beverage, or accommodation to members at participating hotels and restaurants, not only in Bahrain but also Australasia, Middle East, Greater China and Southwest Asia. There is a lot to look forward to!
