As part of its preparation for Ramadan, the Fujairah Municipality is carrying out inspections on all food outlets, including convenience stores and grocery stores to ensure they’re complying with public hygiene standards.

Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, director-general of the Fujairah Municipality, said that the municipality will be checking all food outlets and ensuring appropriate licencing and hygiene systems are in place.

Outlets subject to the inspection include any food or health outlet, including: restaurants, cafeterias, eateries, bakeries, groceries, confectioneries, retailers, shopping centres, food stores, vegetable and fruit markets, butcheries, and even places which sell subsidised goods.

Aseela Al Muala, director of the public services and environment department, said the Public Health Section will stay vigilant with the inspection visits throughout the entire holy month to prevent any violations that may harm the public health.

In addition, all sacrificial animals to be slaughtered during Ramadan will be subject to a vet check-up before and after the slaughtering process in order to ward off any potential disease, she added.
There are currently four abbatoirs operating in Fujairah.

“Slaughterhouses in Fujairah shall remain open from 8am to 4pm and from 9pm to 11.30pm,” Muala said.

Fujairah’s rules during Ramadan are that hotels and serviced accommodation can provide room service to non-Muslim guests in their room during the day.

Restaurants which want to stay open during the day to prepare and serve take-away meals only must arrange a permit from the municipality in advance. All other F&B outlets must be closed from sunrise until sunset otherwise.

No alcohol must be sold during Ramadan and all establishments selling it including nightclubs and bars, will be closed.
