Fairmont Ajman has launched its traditional Turkish restaurant Kiyi, with head chef Fahri Karatas.

Karatas grew up in Istanbul, Turkey and worked his way up the ranks from sous chef in local restaurants to head chef at the Turkish Embassy in Gambia. He has also worked in countries like Indonesia and Egypt.

“Turkish food is all about flavour, colours and aromas and sharing style meals is really important to me,” said Karatas.

“The Kiyi menu will include plenty of family platters so the meal can be enjoyed across the table which is very traditional in Turkish culture.”

Kiyi, meaning ‘along the shore’ (an dpronounced 'key'), overlooks the Arabian Gulf and is designed in a traditional Imperial Ottoman setting.

Warm and earthy tones can be found throughout the restaurant, most prominently in the Byzantine mosaic patterns that adorn the walls in green and turquoise shades.

Neutral toned textiles, including crafted chandeliers made from bronze spheres in varying sizes, line the bar area, while splashes of azur accentuate each table. Slender antique-inspired lanterns bring tradition to the main dining area while private nooks with majilis style seating can be enclosed to offer a more private dining experience.

The restaurant also offers a large outdoor dining area by the beach.

The Kiyi menu features traditional Turkish foods as well as new dishes. Dishes include the kuzu siş (Turkish lamb kebab) and pilic budu izgara (grilled chicken kebab) plus et sotesi (pan fried beef fillet in tomato sauce) and kuzu tandır (slow cooked lamb shank). A seafood selection includes kılıç balıgı izgara (coriander marinated grilled swordfish) and deniz urunleri sis (grilled seafood; shrimps, sea bass, calamari and scallops).

Fairmont Ajman general manager Henny Schaeffer said: “Kiyi represents our commitment as a brand to bring world class dining to the emirate. As a leader on the culinary landscape in the region, Fairmont Ajman will draw in guests from all over the UAE to experience authentic cuisine and Turkish culture against the backdrop of a stunning restaurant.”

Kiyi is located on the lobby level of Fairmont Ajman and will be open daily, except on Tuesdays.
