Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman has been awarded the Green Globe certification, following a comprehensive audit by Farnek Middle East, making it the first hotel in Ajman to secure this accolade.
The property secured certification following the launch of a compost project for hotels, and engagment in an energy-saving scheme and various awareness campaigns to achieve greater levels of sustainability.
The 388-room hotel’s initiative to pursue a zero landfill target has led to the utilisation of an urban farm growing local seasonal produce used daily by the hotel kitchen.
Additional sustainable practices incorporated in hotel operations include recycling of waste material, such as paper, bottles, cans and glass, and cost-effective measures to reduce water and electricity consumption in guest rooms and offices.
Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman general manager Iftikhar Hamdani said: “It took the property a year to prepare for the audit and fulfil with the high standards set by Green Globe, to make sure that we are on the right track. I would like to commend the team for all their efforts as we are finally able to secure the esteemed certification.”
The certification was presented by Farnek Middle East director of consultancy Sandrine Le Biavant, Green Globe’s preferred partner in the region, providing consultancy and auditing on behalf of the organisation.
She said: “The property has been an ambassador in terms of sustainability in the tourism and hospitality industry in Ajman and the Northern Emirates, and we are positive that more ideas will be carried out in the future.”
