Dubai-born budget airline Flydubai has reported growth in passenger numbers and profits for 2015.

According to a statement by the company, 2015 was Flydubai’s fourth consecutive profitable year.

The statement revealed that total revenue for 2015 was $1.33 billion (AED4.9 billion), an 11% increase on 2014.

Profit reported by the company for 2015 was $27.4 million (AED100.7 million).

Passenger numbers also increased by an average of 25% over 2015.

Within the GCC, passenger numbers grew by 18%. Passenger numbers in the wider Middle East, including Jordan and Lebanon grew by 37%.

Travel between the UAE and India accounted for 15% of total passenger growth. Launching in March 2015, Chennai became Flydubai’s 8th location in India.

Chairman of Flydubai, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: “2015 was an important year for Flydubai. It was a year in which through determination and commitment we continued to realise our vision to increase connectivity in support of the UAE’s economic development.

"The year culminated in two achievements: the delivery of our 50th aircraft; and our fourth full-year of profitability.”
