The emirate of Dubai has retained its position as the world’s fourth most popular travel destination, and the top-ranked destination in the Middle East region, according to the latest Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index.
In the top 20 global destination cities by international visitor spending, Dubai jumped to the top rank in the world, in the global index.
Dubai also recorded a total international visitor spending of US $31,3 billion (AED 114,2 billion), a third higher than the second-ranked London, estimated at $19.8 billion (AED 72,7 billion).
This also implies a much higher spending per international visitor per visit in Dubai, which is US $2,050 (AED 7,520), compared with $994 (AED 3,650) in London.

Now in its seventh year, as a tracking study of international travel destinations, cross-border spend and the internal patterns, the Global Destination Cities Index has ranked Bangkok as the world’s most visited city.
London is the top-ranked in Europe in international visitors and ranked second globally, while New York tops North America (ranked fifth globally).
