A member of a Dubai luxury hotel’s management team was arrested for stealing US$ 150,000 (AED 550,900) from a guest's hotel room safe in January 2017, according to a report from The Gulf Today.

The guest services manager of a hotel in Jumeirah was able to guess the password of a Congolese hotel guest's safe and confessed to the theft, saying that he had a "pressing need", a police report at Bur Dubai Police Station revealed.

The report describes how the victim recounted that upon his arrival at Dubai International Aiport, he declared carrying $700,000 and 20,000 Euros to airport security authorities. He then checked into the hotel and paid for his stay, leaving him a balance of $650,000 as well as the Euros. He placed the cash inside his room's safety deposit box, secured with a password and left the hotel past 1pm. Upon returning to his room in the evening, he realised that $150,000 had disappeared from the original total sum and immediately informed the hotel management, who called the police. The police eventually found the cash in the manager's car.
