Although a number of mainstream projects have been announced across Oman in recent years, Oman's overall approach to tourism development focuses on promoting the Sultanate's unspoilt environment and attracting niche markets. As a result, all current and future tourism master plans are subject to rigorous environmental impact assessments and planning guidelines.

Alongside the fast pace development, it is encouraging to witness the steps that are being taken towards environmental responsibility in the hospitality and tourism sector.

With some conscientious thought and planning, it is possible to make a difference. The price of not taking action or of irresponsible development cannot yet be measured, but the message that sustainability is essential is heard louder each day.
