UAE travel giant ditches Sabre for Amadeus

One of Dubai’s largest travel company’s, Sharaf Travel, has switched its GDS for the third time in as many years.

The company, which famously made the headlines in Arabian Travel News at Arabian Travel Market 2006 when it ditched its long-term deal with Galileo in favour of Sabre, has now plumped for Amadeus.

Amadeus last week announced the signing of a three-year agreement with Sharaf to exclusively deal with its network of agencies across the UAE and Oman.

“We were evaluating the different GDS’s as our contract with Sabre was due to expire and we just felt that for us Amadeus was providing the best value,” explained Sharaf Travel’s travel manager Premjit Bangara.

“The extra features that we looked at that Amadeus were willing to provide like their web service included in the overall package cost was the right fit for us.”

Amadeus Gulf managing director Ghulam Al Baloushi added: “We are positioned strongly to support Sharaf Travel’s unique business needs. Our newly established regional hub in Dubai will be instrumental in bringing Amadeus’ global expertise to a local level.”

Amadeus recently opened its new training centre in Al Ain, which provides travel agents with training on Amadeus and how to effectively sell travel packages and solutions to customers.

The courses comprise both practical and classroom training, adhering to a globally-accredited curriculum closely aligned to the requirements of the region’s travel industry.

“We have strong operations in Al Ain and we really want to give them as much support as possible,” said Al Baloushi. “The course will be open to all agents, not just those who use our systems, and it will be completely free of charge.”
